Torsion Construction Limited fell into administration at the end of July 2026. Interpath was appointed as administrators and the vast majority of its 115 staff were made redundant.
The reasons behind the collapse will feel familiar to many in the sector. Torsion cited prolonged pressure on trading conditions, rising costs, reduced activity, and a series of project-specific commercial challenges that depleted working capital. Direct payment arrangements introduced on several sites helped protect clients and supply chain partners but came at a cost to the business’s own liquidity.
It’s worth noting that the administration applies solely to Torsion Construction Limited. The wider Torsion group continues to trade normally including: Torsion Care, Torsion Projects, Torsion Homes and Torsion Developments.
The 8 projects affected by the Torsion Construction Administration
The Barbour ABI research team has identified eight live projects tied to Torsion Construction that will be put on hold. The total value of these projects have an estimated value of £474m, £100m of which comes from the Ruby Hotel on Princess Street in Edinburgh. The construction industry will be watching to see what happens to these schemes next.
