What is the Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment (TUPE)?

The Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment, abbreviated as TUPE, is set to protect employees if the business in which they are employed changes hands. When a company transfers from an old owner to a new owner, the employees and any liabilities are carried over. TUPE was created in 1981 and have had updates in 2006.
