What is Part F Building Regulation?

Part F of the Building Regulations sets legal requirements for ventilation in new and existing buildings across England. It works alongside Part L (energy efficiency) to balance airtightness with indoor air quality, preventing issues such as damp, mould, and CO₂ build-up.

Part F defines standards for:

Ventilation rates in dwellings and non-domestic buildings.

Extraction systems in kitchens, bathrooms, and wet rooms.

Background ventilation (trickle vents or mechanical systems).

Commissioning and testing to confirm systems meet design performance.
