Barbour ABI Training Room: How to Manage Projects, Companies and Relationships

Welcome to the Barbour ABI Training Room series. In this blog we take you step-by-step through how to manage construction projects, companies and relationships within the Barbour ABI platform. Further training and resources can be found in the ‘My Barbour ABI’ section of the website.

Construction Project Page Information & Actions

1. Click on the title of a project within a list to view a project page. Find out How to Perform a Search to bring up the results you need.

2. At the top of the project page, you can view information such as:

  • project title / name
  • project address
  • First Published = the date we first reported on the project
  • Project Value = the overall value of the build
  • Project Reference = the unique ID number for the project from the Barbour ABI platform
  • Next Call = the date when we are due to make the next research call on the project
  • Last Checked = when our Research team last reviewed the project
  • Managed By = the researcher who is managing the project
  • Site Progress = if the project is on site, you’ll have a progress monitor that shows how far along the project is
  • Call Info Added = this icon shows that the information on the project page has been found through a phone call

3. Click the Details tab to view:

  • Scheme = details of what the build is for
  • Planning Stage = details of where planning is at for the project. This section also includes a link to any planning documentation
  • Contract Stage = details of the contract for the project
  • Land Type = the type of land the project is being built on
  • Development Type = details of the development
  • Timing = start date, finish date, tender date, and duration of the project
  • Size = relevant dimensions of the project including storeys, areas and number of structures
  • Materials (tab) = list of materials linked to the project
  • Categories (tab) = relevant categories and sectors linked to the project

4. Click the Roles & Companies tab to view any companies and contacts related to the project.

  • Select the roles you’d like to view from the list and the company performing that role will appear.
  • If a company has an arrow next to their entry, this means we have a confirmed contact. Click the arrow to view the contact details.
  • Click a company name from the list to view the Company Page.

5. Click the Updates tab to view a list of anything new, updated or amended within the project, with the date the update occurred.

6. Click the Activities tab to view:

  • My Tags = view your existing Tags or create a new Tag to add to the project. Click an existing Tag from the dropdown list or enter the name of your new Tag and click Add Tag to create a new one.
  • My Shares = share the project page with a colleague who has an account on the platform. Type or click on their name, enter your own message, then click Share. This will send an email to the person who you share with.
  • My Notes = add your own notes to a project. Type in your note then click Add Note.
  • Calendar Events = if you have access to Calendar Feature, you can add events to the project here. Click Add Event, then enter the relevant details to get a notification via email and within the platform.
  • Collaborations = view actions that you or your colleagues have done on the project including adding tags, favouriting and archiving.

7. Click the Map tab to plan your route to a project location. Use your current location or enter an alternative start location. You will then be shown a map with your plan, as well as step-by-step directions.

Quick Actions

Click the buttons at the top of the page to perform quick actions:

  • My Tags = go to the My Tags tab

  • My Shares = go to the My Shares tab

  • My Notes = go to the My Notes tab

  • Calendar Events = go to the Calendar Events tab

  • Favourite = favourite the project

  • Archive = remove the project from your search results

  • Print View = send the project details to your printer or save as PDF
  • Project Enquiry = send an instant chat to our Research team to find out more or ask questions about the project. Type your message in the box and click Send.

Company Page Information & Actions

1. Click on the name of a company within a list to view a company page. Find out How to Perform a Search to bring up the results you need.

2. At the top of the company page, you can view information such as:

  • company name
  • company address
  • company contact details
  • link to the company Linkedin page
  • link to the Company’s House page
  • Published = the date we first reported on the company
  • Projects = the number of projects we’re reporting on associated with the company
  • Project Value = the total value of the projects the company is associated with

3. Click the People tab to view all the contacts that have been associated with that company. Next to each contact there will be a date showing when we last contacted the person.

4. Click the Projects tab to view the roles the company is performing within each project they’re associated with.

5. Click the Relationships tab to view the roles the company is performing and the associated companies they’ve worked with.

6. Click the Works with Companies tab to view the projects the company is working on and a list of other companies associated with each project.

7. Click the Group Companies tab to view linked or related companies that are within the same group as the company you’re viewing.
