Scotland Secures a Quarter of Infrastructure Awards with Major Energy Projects

Scotland secures a quarter of all infrastructure awards in July. The domination of the sector was bolstered by two £150m projects.

Based in Lanark, Strathclyde the first of the two huge projects is the 500MW Coalburn Energy battery storage facilities. The second project based in Dumfries and Galloway features an 84MW Wind Farm.

Coalburn Energy – 500MW Battery Storage Project Details from Barbour ABI

The project features a 500MW battery storage facilities and associated infrastructure in Coalburn, Scotland. The facility has been developed in partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) who are currently working on a seven total battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the UK.

The construction of the battery storage began in November 2023 and will take 23 months to complete. Our expert team of researchers have recorded the site progress of this project to 40%.

Stranoch 2 – 84MW Wind Farm Project Details from Barbour ABI

The second £150m energy project is the Stranoch 84MW Wind Farm based in Dumfries and Galloway. The site will consist of 20 4.2MW turbines at a height of 175m, with all associate infrastructure and 20MW of battery storage.

Currently 15% way through total site progress, the construction is to be completed in November 2025.
