Sir Robert McAlpine Contract Awarded for Agritas Gigafactory
The race to net zero shows promising signs as a contract has been awarded for the £500m Agritas Gigafactory in Somerset. Contractor Sir Robert McAlpine is confirmed to begin work on site on January 2025.
Phase one of the build will comprise of:
- Battery cell manufacturing facility, including staff welfare facilities
- Sprinkler tank zone and plant rooms
- Solid & hazardous waste facility
- Goods in and goods out warehouse
- NMP/ chemical storage
- Energy centre
- Electrolyte storage
- Phase 1 Agratas electricity substation gatehouse
- Hard and soft landscaping
According to ThisIsGravity, upon completion in October 2026 the Gigafactory will directly create 4,000 new jobs and thousands more in the wider supply chain.
